The 996 generation introduced the world of water to the 911 family in 1997. The classic beloved air-cooled engine began to reach its limits of potential and Porsche felt the pressure to bring something revolutionary to the market. The 996 was born and Porsche continued its success through today and into the future. The 996 Turbo was introduced a few years later in 2000 (2001 for the US) carrying over the legendary Mezger engine derived from the GT1 racecar. This Mezger engine is known for its reliability, torque, power, and lack of IMS bearing issues. 2005 is the final year of the 911 Turbo.
